Georgia Tech Shines Amid ACC Uncertainty: Record-Breaking Fundraising
The future of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) hangs in the balance as Florida State and Clemson have filed lawsuits against the conference, raising questions about their potential moves to other leagues. However, amidst the turmoil and uncertainty, Georgia Tech has managed to bring a ray of positivity to the conference with an impressive fundraising achievement.
On Monday, Georgia Tech proudly announced that the Alexander-Tharpe Fund, its athletics fundraising arm, generated nearly $78.2 million for the fiscal year ending June 30. This remarkable total not only sets a new school record but also marks a staggering 43% increase over the previous record set in 2019–2020. Incredibly, this year’s fundraising total is 161% higher than what the school raised just last year.
What makes this achievement even more impressive is that nearly 90% of the donations were classified as “non-seat-related gifts,” meaning these contributions didn’t involve any exchange for tickets to football or basketball games. Additionally, 20 of the donations received this year were for at least $1 million, showcasing the strong commitment of Georgia Tech’s donor base.
These record-breaking contributions come at a crucial time for Georgia Tech as the landscape of college athletics continues to evolve, particularly with the advent of the transfer portal and new name, image, and likeness (NIL) regulations.
“As the landscape of college athletics shifts and the financial resources needed to compete for championships at the highest level increase, we are so grateful for our donors stepping up to the plate and making a record-breaking impact on Tech athletics,” said J Batt, Georgia Tech’s director of athletics.
In a time of uncertainty for the ACC, Georgia Tech’s fundraising success not only highlights the strength of its community but also positions the school to thrive in the changing college athletics environment. With a strong foundation of support and resources, Georgia Tech is well-prepared to face the challenges ahead, making a strong case for its continued prominence in the conference.
