Happy 102nd Birthday Shout Out to Mrs. Rachel Robinson!

Rachel Robinson, known as an American business leader, civil rights activist, professor, nurse, wife, and mother is a woman of enormous accomplishments. These include her own and those achieved jointly with her trend breaking professional baseball husband, Jackie Robinson, who broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball in 1947 when he played with the Brooklyn Dodgers. After her husband’s death, she founded the Jackie Robinson Foundation.

The Robinsons met in 1940 on the campus of UCLA where Rachel earned her nursing degree in 1945. The two wed in 1946 in Los Angeles and were married until the baseball icon’s death in 1972.

I am delighted to say she is still going strong. Today, she lives on a 60 acre farm in Salem, Connecticut. In case you missed it, we pause for just a moment this evening (2 days later) to celebrate Mrs. Robinson and to say Happy 102nd Birthday as of Friday, July 19, 2024!
